Katrina + Brandon

When we first met Katrina and Brandon 4 years ago, they were still college students, dating, and living as roommates, while growing their new wedding photography business. It was clear that these two were ambitious and well beyond their years in terms of their talent and accomplishments. Daniel and Brandon met through the online wedding photography community, and Brandon invited us to stay with them in California while on a roadtrip across the United States. We hit it off immediately and they quickly became two of our closest friends, who we now consider family. We feel like we know these two pretty well; we are so familiar Brandon’s sense of humor and indescribable laugh, and Katrina’s gentle, kind, and generous spirit. But throughout their wedding weekend in Palm Springs, we had the pleasure of getting to know their families whom we had never met before. It quickly became apparent that these two are appropriate products of their parents: Brandon’s side is hilarious, adorable, and at times wonderfully inappropriate, and Katrina’s parents are thoughtful, sweet and just like their daughter, they laugh at all of Brandon’s jokes.

Katrina and Brandon put so much thought into their big day, and to say that it paid off would be an understatement. Brandon, who Katrina often jokingly referred to as the bride, insisted on a romantic twilight reception on the stunning grounds of Korakia, and balanced it off by surprising guests with a Vegas nightclub-inspired dance party at a secret location, complete with showgirls, fog, lasers, and a performance by the groom. We often joked that this wedding had split personalities, but in fact, it was perfectly suited to this couple who appreciates beauty and romance, but who also loves a baller party!

Epic is a word so commonly used nowadays, but I honestly can’t think of a more appropriate word to sum up this whole affair. Katrina and Brandon, we are so touched that you selected us to capture your most incredible day. We love you both so very much and our lives are better with you in them.

Nadia + Lawrence

We were connected with Nadia and Lawrence through what we like to call our "Taiwanese Connection" (because it makes us sound really hardcore and mysterious). This connection is actually our former bride Grace, whose wedding to Yitao we photographed in Taipei back in 2011. We had such a great time with these two and the feeling must have been mutual because we have since traveled to Japan and Bhutan for weddings that she recommended us for. It was notable that Nadia and Lawrence's wedding in California's wine country would be the first time we saw this group of friends outside of Asia! After working as an unofficial wedding consultant for her friends, we were both thrilled and unsurprised when Grace announced that she would be the official wedding planner for this wedding, a business she hopes to continue expanding. The weddings we had the pleasure of documenting in Taiwan, Japan, and Bhutan were all so unique in their own way, and Nadia and Lawrence's was no exception. They chose Sonoma for its undeniable beauty and delicious wine, and we got all that and then some at Kunde Estate. They picked only their favorite Taiwanese tradition, the door games, and kept the rest of the day nice and simple with a short ceremony officiated by a friend, followed by cocktails, a first dance, dinner, and a few speeches.

Don't think that because the traditional Taiwanese part of the day was short that this means the girls took it easy on Lawrence and his groomsmen! In order for Lawrence to earn the right to see Nadia, the guys had to reenact some complicated gymnastics poses, pop balloons between their legs, and remove pantyhose from over their faces without using their hands. But it was all worth it once the two were reunited again, and we finally got to witness the sweetness between them. Daniel and I got to spend some additional time with Nadia and Lawrence as we took them around the property for portraits, and the kindness and respect they have for one another was evidenced by the sweet, helpful gestures they offer each other. Getting around a vineyard in a wedding dress has it's challenges, but Lawrence was always up for lending his bride a helpful hand.

It was an honor to share in the lovely union of these two individuals, in the always stunning setting of California's finest landscapes. Thank you to Grace, Lawrence and Nadia for making us a part of it.

Annie + Jon

Anyone who has ever planned a wedding knows how much work it can be. Anyone who has ever planned a destination wedding knows how much MORE work that can be (I speak from experience on this one!). Well, not only did Annie and Jon plan their Japan wedding all the way from Canada, but they did it all in just a few months. In fact, this was such a near impossible feat that they came close to postponing it altogether, just one month before the big day. Thankfully, with the help of some good friends, the expertise of their wedding planner Freya, and the team at Hotel Nikko Alivila, their destination wedding became a reality. While Okinawa, Japan may have been a bit of a long trek for Annie and Jon (who live in Toronto full time), it was the perfect midpoint location for their families and guests, most of whom live in Taiwan and China. The little glass chapel at Alivila set the stage for their ceremony and was definitely one of the most stunning ceremony locations we've ever had the pleasure of photographing. After the ceremony, we took a walk along the beach for some portraits, and explored the lush green ocean floor, kindly provided to us by the low tide.

We loved being introduced to a brand new location, so far-removed from mainland Japan, let alone our own home, and we are so grateful to Annie and Jon for having given us this opportunity. Browse through a few of our favorite images from their wedding day by clicking on the arrows, above.
