When you join the wedding photography community, you are joining a family. This family knows what you go through as an artist, and as a business owner. It knows that sometimes you need to share and learn, and sometimes you need to talk about something else for once, or you just really need to let off some steam. We first met Ben and Caroline through our wedding photography family, at a conference in New Orleans. It was easy to hit it off, because we share the same work, the same passion, the same lifestyle; and to top it off, we know what it's like to do it all with our significant other. We quickly learned that they are both deeply passionate photographers, who support one another's growth with some healthy competition that Daniel and I can certainly identify with! Caroline and Ben have an even tighter knit group of wedding photographer family members in their local community of Austin, Texas. In fact, these guys made up 50% of the wedding guests during their wedding week in Costa Rica. Wedding photographer weddings are notorious for a good party, and we knew this group would not disappoint, but I'm not sure we were totally prepared for what was to come... Champagne showers, stripper horses, and endless lifts and slips... this was one epic dance floor!
The whole week, in fact, was filled with surprises for everyone. Caroline and Ben knew they wanted a fun vacation with their closest friends and family, and that's exactly what they got. On the eve of the wedding, they treated everyone to a trip to the Tabacon hot springs, a beautiful and relaxing site that absolutely everyone loved. The tropical rain seemed to reveal itself only at the most convenient moments; during the night, while everyone was indoors, but never during any of the outdoor activities. On the morning of the wedding, it seemed that the weather would not be on our side, but wouldn't you know it, the moment Caroline walked up to Ben in a field of grazing horses, and just as they saw each other for the first time all dressed up on their big day, the volcano revealed itself for the first time that week. It was the perfect segue into an emotional ceremony, officiated by their good friend (and fellow wedding photographer) Sam. There wasn't a dry eye in the crowd as they shared vows they had written for each other. There is an unquestionable complicity between these two, and their custom-tailored wedding ceremony was proof of that.
We are so lucky to have been selected as the photographers for the union of these two individuals. Many of the photographers in attendance asked us whether we were feeling a lot of pressure, and I'd say that it was positive pressure. The kind of pressure that makes you want to work really, really hard to do justice to all of it. It was, quite honestly, also a whole lot of fun for us! Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, Caroline and Ben, for trusting us with this task!
