Susan + Cliff | Philadelphia, PA

If your job is related to weddings in any way, or if you have searched for a wedding photographer in the last decade, chances are you’ve come across Susan Stripling and Cliff Mautner‘s work. They are without a doubt, among the most talented and most respected photographers in our industry. Davina and I first met Susan a couple of years ago, and we quickly bonded over stories from other weddings, fashion (well the girls did!), and what it’s like to share our lives with the perfect person. When we received an invitation to her and Cliff’s wedding, we knew that it would be a wedding not to be missed. After thinking about it for a few days, I reached out to the talented Mary Beth Tyson, who was going to be their wedding photographer, and I offered to be a second shooter. I knew that it would be a honour to photograph this wedding alongside a photographer I respect so much, as well as a personal challenge (for my nerves) given who the subjects were, and given the group of other talented photographers who would be in attendance.

The day started at The Four Seasons Hotel where Susan got ready with her two, as well as Cliff’s two, beautiful daughters. As a photographer who is drawn to emotions between my subjects, documenting the girls getting ready was an utter delight for me. Singing, dancing, crying, hugging, laughing… all were part of it. Not to mention how incredible Susan’s dress looked in the background – and of course even better once she put it on! At the ceremony, everyone was treated to a stunning display of hundreds of candles on bronze candelabras, chandeliers rested on the floor, and a zigzag aisle lead up to the Chuppah. The wax running off the open flame candles gave the Front & Palmer space an edgy yet classic and romantic look; a perfect backdrop to the emotional ceremony.

During dinner, Cliff gave the only speech of the night, in which he mentioned that being a part of the wedding industry has been about more than just having colleagues – it’s been about joining a family. We couldn’t agree more with that statement. Susan & Cliff, thank you for including us in your wedding, as both guests & photographers, for introducing us to your sweet daughters, incredible friends, and for throwing one heck of a wedding. We’re so fortunate to be sharing out time in the industry with you both, and look forward to many more great times ahead.

I’ve been waiting to see this for a long time (well the rest of the photography industry too). I choked up a little bit (hah…I guess pun intended) as I could feel the raw emotions through your pictures. Abso-freaking-lutley amazing beyond words. My absolute favorite is when Susan is just about to get into the limo. I loved ema’s face as she looked away. I also loved that this time you wrote the blog post!! Great job!

I shoot weddings as my work and you kind of get used to these wedding films, but this made me cry. Great couple, details, cinematography, venue…but the Dress:) it was devine 🙂 And it is a dream to merry your best friend. All the time I thought it is just a cliche until I merried mine. You are so lucky Susan and Cliff.
