and i love it. but i’m not sure it’s going to work. it’s a lot bigger than i thought and it doesn’t fit quite right on my head. i was hoping it would be more of a headpiece than a full-fledged hat, but i’m not sure. i’m going to try it with different hairstyles and see how i feel. if i don’t use it as part of my actual wedding attire, i’m thinking it’ll be the perfect accessory for that departure i discussed a while back. could just add that on to switch it up a bit. we shall see!

i’m in love with this “groom” bowtie t-shirt by the wedding chicks. i think daniel would look freaking adorable in it!

we photographed a wedding recently where the couple brought in a cartoonist for their cocktail hour. it was so different and such a fun entertainment for the guests. i liked how it contrasted with their formal wedding. it said, “we don’t take ourselves too seriously.” and i dig that.

this is a little tacky, i know. but i can’t resist.
i got this pillow for our wedding rings. you see, our ring bearer is our adult friend, stefan (long story, but the job certainly suits him!). we initially wanted our precious little dachshund, coco, to be our flower girl, but bringing her to mexico has proven to be a lot more complicated than we had hoped. i wouldn’t normally want or need a ring pillow, but since we have a designated ring bearer and this pillow looks just like coco, i think we have no other choice. plus we can display it at home in the meantime/afterwards. bonus!
a little kitch never hurt anyone, right?

this is a fantastic idea: alphabet discs. these are carboard letters, people. that you write things with. and hang up. there are so many obvious uses for weddings: “just married,” “sweets,” “photo booth”… and unlike most wedding accessories, you can reuse them again and again. think: “welcome home,” happy birthday,” “congratulations,” or, as meve suggested, dirty words.

i dug up this photo from my inspiration folder today and it got me thinking. how could we display photos from our lives and relationship at the wedding, without having a slideshow? it’s not that i don’t like slideshows – i actually think they’re great for reaction photos (but that’s me speaking as a photographer) – we’ve just decided to keep the reception as simple as possible to make the most out of the party time. but i’d love to have an area, maybe in our fancy-shmancy lounge area, to display some of our favorite photos (would you believe that we have tons?!). i was thinking of maybe hanging a whole bunch of them from string in the gazebo thingy but i love the look of all these frames together (with photos in them, obviously). so it’s got me thinking. thinking what exactly? i’m not sure yet.

i’m feeling nostalgic today. well, i guess it can’t be nostalgia, seeing as how i wasn’t born yet. but you know what i mean.
i think it’s because i recently ordered a vintage headpiece for the wedding. yes, you read right. i’ve got the dress, the shoes, and this would be the final, big style item. i’m not sure if it’s going to work yet, so i’m not crossing it off the list just yet, but it seems really promising.
anyhow, in the spirit of vintage weddings, i looked up three of my favorite style icons: marilyn, audrey, and jackie o. the first two were married more than once, so i knew there would be some great wedding eyecandy in the archives. and was there ever…

(thank you, google images)
i’m back! and i had the most amazing time! paul was beyond amazing, new york was wonderful, and the connecticut wedding we photographed was one of the most beautiful i’ve ever attended (more on that later this week).
AND! we crossed another item off the wedding to-do list… my shoes! i think the best part was shopping for them with daniel. he was such a trooper shopping around with me on my birthday and we had the most amazing day together. he was so enthusiastic about these being perfect, there was no way i was arguing with that!

you like?
this summer’s craziness has really been tough on daniel and i. so we’re taking the next few days to ourselves. tonight we are having dinner out, then drinks at the place where we had our first date, and spending the night in a small hotel in old montreal (thanks for the gift, jen!). we so need this time together!

we’re heading off to toronto to see paul mccartney (my childhood dream!) for our anniversary and then a stop in nyc for my birthday on our way to a wedding in connecticut.
i’ll be back in about a week and a half – and have no posts planned while i’m away. i’m sorry! but this little bit of time will feel sooooo good!

when i photograph weddings, i always ask where the couple is honeymooning. this might sound like small talk, but i’m sincerely interested to know where people choose to spend their first trip as husband and wife. many couples opt for a relaxing vacation spot, which, as a bride-to-be in the midst of her planning, i completely understand. but i always think it’s pretty cool when couples choose something a little different. i like the idea of a husband and wife’s first trip together being an adventure – kind of like what married life is like!
daniel and i weren’t really planning on taking an official honeymoon, since we’ll be in mexico for 2 weeks for the actual wedding. but then we saw photos of iceland… and completely fell in love. we decided that we needed an excuse to go there. and what better excuse than a honeymoon? we’ll be taking a roadtrip around the country for 2 weeks, a few months after our wedding. this destination should balance out the mexican heat, don’t you think?
anyhoo, that brings me to today’s post. so there’s this couple that got married in iceland. and for lack of a more imaginative description, their wedding was so, so beautiful. the scenery in this photos speaks for itself, but do head on over to see all the lust-worthy details on 100 layer cake. ’cause there are lots!
