i just posted about our stop at the quakertown market on our roadtrip blog, but i wanted to stop by here and tell you all about the latest wedding progress we’ve been making, which was aided by this interesting little place!
we’ve decided to go with vintage milk glass vases (along with the vintage cameras) for our wedding centerpieces and we’re having a great time hunting for them so far! i had picked one up at my local salvation army and we bought a bunch from an interesting lady at the quakertown flea market yesterday. then today, at a great thrift store in philly, we hit the jackpot with some more. we’ve got so many in our car that we might have to ship them back home so we don’t have to take them all over the country with us.
they’re packed away in the car right now, but i found this photo to give you an idea of what we’re going for. we’ll probably go with some white peonies and lots of candles mixed in (i know, i know. flowers! the one thing i said i didn’t want!).

to a dress!!!!!!!!! (i know that’s an absurd amount of exclamation points but i think this occasion merits it!)
can you believe it? i don’t think it’s settled in yet! i’m still freaking out!
ok, ok, so let’s start at the beginning… yesterday, daniel and i went for our second appointments at pronovias and kleinfleld. i still wasn’t blown away by the pronovias dress when i tried in on a second time; i just didn’t have the feeling i thought i should have. so by the time we went to kleinfeld i had very little expectation and was pretty discouraged. i had also visited another store the day before and was even less impressed with the selection there. despite this, i still tried to go to my appointment with some optimism! one of our brides who was also in new york this week had an appointment earlier that day and she loved her consultant jacqueline so she recommended her and she was right! she was just amazing and knew what i wanted right away. she brought me to pnina tornai’s section, and while i was a little hesitant at first, she was totally right. the best part is pnina herself was there and she helped us out, even picking the dress that ended up being “the one.” i just ADORED this dress! i put it on and daniel and i were both in tears. i was starting to think that i wasn’t going to get that feeling, but i TOTALLY got it! jacqueline brought me to the big room where there are many other brides (and some camera people as they were shooting for say yes to the dress) and i have to say, once a dozen people have sent compliments your way (including the owner of the store and the dress’ designer), it kinda helps to seal the deal! there was also an element i loved in another of pnina’s dresses and she agreed to add it on to my dress as a gift. she was awesome and the whole experience was just wonderful!
omgicantbelieveit!!! i’m freaking out over here. ok. i have no photo to share as i want to keep some elements a surprise, but i just had to share the news with you!
hello from nyc, our first stop on the roadtrip!
daniel and i had some free time to wander around the city yesterday and we stopped by an amazing paper store where we found this great vintage-inspired notebook:

i believe meve used these exact notebooks at her wedding and i just loved them! we picked one up and we’ll be using is as our guestbook, for guests to write messages in (duh!) and we can later stick their polaroid photos into it. it fits our vintage theme and our black, white and gray color scheme, and (here’s the best part) it was 4$!
win, win win!
today we leave for our roadtrip. i can’t believe it’s finally time! daniel and i have been planning this somewhat secretly for over a year now and i don’t think the reality of it has hit us yet!
our first stop is new york, where i will once again attempt to find my wedding dress. i second appointments at pronovias to re-try the dress daniel and arielle really liked, and one at kleinfelds where i hope to get a better consultant!
i’ll be in touch as soon as i get the chance, but don’t forget to follow our new, roadtrip blog: so this is the u.s, eh?
wish me luck! (both for the roadtrip and the dress search!) i’m going to put out some positivity into the universe by sharing some pretty pictures of pretty dresses with you:

so long!!!!
i know i shouldn’t be thinking about anything wedding related, what with a 2 month roadtrip coming up in a few days, but lately i can’t help but think about what i want to look like on the wedding day. it’s probably because i’ve been wedding dress shopping. whatever, point is, i’ve been looking into veils. i know i want a birdcage, and i was going to use my friend kate’s, but it doesn’t actually fit my head very nicely. so i’m back on the veil market, so to speak. i’m really into these three, sort of “revisited” birdcages:

(middle image is a maria elena headpiece via lake jane; the other two i just can’t for the life of me remember!)
whatever i go with, i think i will first try to craft it myself. i’m fairly confident in my ability to whip something up and that way i can try lots of different looks before deciding on one (and we all know how i like to change my mind every so often…!)

registering at a place like the bay has it’s downsides. sure we registered for practical things like a blender and a kitchenaid mixer, but what if i want amazing things like these quirky pillow cases?!

i think i can make a skirt like zooey’s here. i used to be decent with a sewing machine (i made my prom dress when i graduated and made my sister’s for her 5 years later) and this looks like a fairly simple project. wide elastic waist with petal-shaped fabric pieces sew into each other. easy-peasy.

(i’ve had this photo in my “fashion love” folder on my computer for a while now. i just came across it and can’t remember where it’s from)
could be a good option for a rehearsal dinner or sunday brunch outfit. we shall see, we shall see!
here’s a terrific idea for a laid-back, home-style wedding: bun cakes in lieu of the traditional wedding cake (or even pies, an idea which i also love by the way). this is something i’ve never seen before and i really like it! ah and don’t those lovely cake stands and branches of lavender complement them beautifully?
i bet the bride and groom had manila tags as escort cards. wouldn’t that go so perfectly?

(via once wed)
p.s. i really want bun cake now.
p.p.s. bun cake, tee-hee!

these bridesmaids are quite lovely, i think. this was a fashion shoot though, so we can’t be too jealous.
