I know, I know. Our life is so hard. We have to fly to far away places like Bali for work. And then we have to shoot in really hot weather. Pity us, will you?

All jokes aside, this job is pretty awesome. And this wedding, on the other side of the planet from where we live, was just amazing to photograph. Leon is the brother of our good friend Ross (who created this amazing blog of ours) and we are so thrilled he picked us to photograph the wedding. It was an intimate, low-key event, free of the usual drama and stress – a nice refreshing change (almost as refreshing as our dip in the pool when we got back to the hotel afterward!).

We liked Julia and Daniel from the first moment that we met, and I think it’s safe to say that we’re now in love with them. They are such beautiful people, both inside and out (I know that sounds like a cliche, but it’s so true!) which made photographing them and spending the day with them such a pleasure. (My) Daniel even told them they had pretty faces, something I will probably tease him about for a long time (such a funny compliment for one man to give another, but that’s one of the reasons I love him so much!).

We also loved being involved in helping Julia and Daniel with some of their planning, as they chose us before they had picked any other of their wedding vendors or even their venue. While it was completely unnecessary, we are SO happy and grateful for their thank-you gift – a kitchen mixer from our wedding registry! They are so sweet, and I know that this wedding was the start of a beautiful friendship between the 4 of us.

Daniel and I were looking forward to Alicia and Shez’s wedding since they booked us last fall. They had all the right buzz words to get us excited: DIY, homemade, long weekend, outdoor, out-of-town guests, cape cod… all of which painted a really nice image for us! And their wedding was really all of this. The amount of work that went into it, and the way in which everyone pitched in was really amazing. It really was a labor of love.

Being there the entire weekend and staying at the B&B with all the guests made us feel like we were really a part of this wedding. I love when we have a chance to get to know everyone better. It reminds me why I love being a wedding photographer, as opposed to any other type of photographer, so much: real people. Oh and we got to take home a few vintage plates from the desert buffet – bonus! ; )

Before I start this post, you should know that Rachel and Ian got engaged last January. That’s 5 months before they actually got married. Oh, and did I mention that they live in Atlanta, not Montreal? Somehow, they still managed to get all their first pick vendors (*ahem!*) and to pull off one of the most beautiful weddings I’ve ever been to. From the custom made tartan kippahs to the specially ordered thistles (the Scottish flower), no detail was overlooked for their Scottish-Jewish wedding. Kristine & Tania of Blanc Events did a wonderful job at putting everything together, and coordinating on the wedding day!

As for Rachel and Ian, well, what can I say? We truly are so lucky to have such fantastic clients. When we first met Rachel and her mom, it was in New York on the first stop of our roadtrip. We met for breakfast and went through our usual client spiel, but it was wedding dresses that we ended up talking about the most. In fact, Rachel and I went to 2 different wedding dress stores at the same time, eventually both finding our dresses on the same day, from the same bridal consultant at Kleinfeld!

Finally, a shout out must go to the Rusty band. Rachel and Ian booked them on our recommendation, without ever hearing them in person, and we couldn’t have been more proud to have referred them! As with every wedding they do, the party was awesome!

Rachel and Ian, thanks for being some amazing to work with. Thanks for having such a fabulous wedding. Thanks for having poutine with us in your wedding gear the day after your wedding. And most of all, thank you for getting in that fountain!

As I sit here writing up this post, looking at Suzanne and Derrick’s photos, I’m having a pretty serious craving for the chocolate chip cookies they baked and hand delivered to us THREE days after their wedding. Seriously, who does that? No one, that’s who. (Oh and we would have appreciated the gesture even if they had been horrible, but they happen to have been the best chocolate chip cookies i ever had).

I think this speaks volumes about the type of people they are (the gesture, not the taste!). They were such an amazingly sweet and shy couple, I felt pretty bad for asking them to make-out and lie on top of each other in their venue’s lobby! Despite this, they never questioned our vision, and had total trust in us. Plus they even understood what made us tick. Case and point, Suzanne said she knew we’d love the salon where she was getting ready because of all the glass and reflections – and boy did we ever!

Before we hit the road on our 2 months road trip across the USA, we promised Jennifer & Matt that we’d get them their wedding photos within a couple of days.

Over the winter holidays, they eloped to Mexico to officially get married, but promised all their friends back home an amazing party on Valentine’s day weekend. They chose Entrepot Dominion for their venue, one of the coolest loft spaces in Montreal, and skipped to whole sit-down dinner in exchange for some mini-burgers and other cocktails.

Before the party, Jennifer & Matt got ready at the W Hotel in Montreal, which gave us an ideal backdrop for some indoor photos. Here a few of our favorites!

Elyna from Unity Weddings did an amazing job with the decor, and setup this fabulous sweet table. The giant cupcake cake is a Jessica Berard creation.

I am positively giddy about today’s post! Daniel and I were dying to photograph a wedding after a long 2 month break (what can I say, we love our jobs!) and we were incredibly pumped to get started on Laura and Scott’s wedding day. I actually bounced out of bed that morning and I never (I mean, NEVER!) have an easy time waking up (seriously, ask Daniel).

And we really couldn’t have asked for a better couple to kick off our new year. They were just fantastic to work with. Laura told us that after they booked us, photography was the only thing she didn’t ever worry about leading up to the wedding day, and i think this trust in us was part of what made the day so smooth for everyone. It also helped that both Laura and Scott were great in front of the camera! We can always tell who pays close attention to our blog – they know how to work it! And work it they most certainly did; including more than one pretty steamy make-out session!

For once in my life, I’m pretty much at a loss for words. I’m feeling pretty emotional as I look back on this year. We learned so much, evolved so much, met so many amazing people, and had opportunities that we had previously only dreamed of. I know I speak for both of us when I say that we are so, so, so grateful. Grateful that we do this for a living, grateful that we have found success in it, grateful for all the amazing friends we’ve made along the way, and grateful that we get to share it with each other.

I have to thank every one of you who are reading this right now. You are our friends, family members, fellow photographers, past or future brides and grooms… and your feedback and support keeps us motivated to keep doing what we do. We have built actual friendships with many of our brides and grooms this year and these relationships are so precious to us. We really do love you guys! (and now I’m crying a little…)

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! We hope to continue to grow for as long as we are doing this and we hope you’ll continue to be there as we evolve. In the meantime, here’s to 2009, a truly amazing year.

Daniel and I were hoping to get this post up earlier today, but we were having brunch with Molina and Bernie… The fact that we spent the last few days staring at their faces on our computer monitors and still wanted to go out with them speaks volumes about how much we like them! Oh and did I mention that we were at it for 19 hours on their wedding day? Yup, not even a 4:30 am wake-up call could make us dislike them!

Despite the early morning and the long, long day, we had an amazing time. There was so much visual stimulation, from their colorful Cambodian ceremony, to the games, lion dancers, and Cirque du Soleil performers at their reception – it was impossible for us to get bored or tired!

Molina and Bernie’s engagement session got such amazing feedback, we only hope their wedding photos are as successful!

17hrs into the day, Molina & I finally took a nap on Mo’s dress… (it was comfy)

When we first met Alex, he said to us: “We’re having a big cheesy Italian wedding. It’s not going to be pretty, but it’s going to be delicious.” We knew there and then that we were going to love them, and we were right. They are big foodies (I know, that’s really unusual for Italians, isn’t it?!) and food played a big part in their wedding day. Their table numbers were named after different food combinations (think mac & cheese, peaches & cream, burgers & fries, etc) and we of course stopped by the market for a few photos where they fed each other samples from the stalls. A food-themed wedding was a first for us and it was just wonderful (and delicious!).

Another first was the “flash-mob” put together by Alex and Alessia. Alex came up with a choreography
